We had a beautiful day for our tour which began at the Dunkin donuts in Denville on Sunday, May 18th. Eight Model A’s and one Pontiac departed, traveling through Parsippany, Mor-ris Plains and Morristown. The route took us along the quiet country roads of Harding Township and then downtown Madison making our first stop at Rusty King’s, a past member of our club.
Rusty has an overwhelming collection of player pianos and juke boxes. The pianos are coin operated for a nickel. The pianos came from all sorts of places, some were from bars, restaurants, diners and skating rinks. There was even one from the Wurhlitzer military band. That one had a drum, organ and trumpets. Another one had a violin and piano that played simultaneously.
The collection went on and on. Rusty has been working on these amazing machines for most of his life. It was fascinating to see all of the instruments and parts working together especially since the machines were made over 125 years ago.
After seeing such an incredible display, we left Rusty’s and headed over to the Frelinghuysen Arboretum where we viewed the beautiful grounds. Rita really enjoyed that. From there we stopped at Miller’s Ale House for good food and fellowship.
