Submitted by: Evelyn Vanderhoff Our club’s beautiful firetruck was proudly displayed at the Butler Day Celebration for Butler being 125 years old. The firetruck was a big hit for the very young, the very old, and everyone in between. Thank you to all of the members who were involved in the restoration and all of the donations we received. It’s amazing what can be accomplished when we all work together. The firetruck is open for any member to have a…
Submitted by: Ken Potts Six Model A’s turned out for the Sussex-Wantage 250th Anniversary Parade on July 18th, helping celebrate the nation’s semiquincentennial. On a beautiful day in July, we gathered at the Airport Diner in Sussex around noon, then made the short drive to our assigned spot in the lineup. The hour-long wait in the hot sun wasn’t ideal. However, it gave us time to catch up with friends, and decorate the cars with the red, white and blue…
Submitted by: Richard Smith The Gymkhana was held on a beautiful, sunny, calm and comfortable day at Pochuk Valley Farms in Vernon NJ. The venue offered a grassy field for the games and a nice tree for shade. Four drivers participated in each of the six games. The games were: Maypole In the Maypole the driver holds a rope tied to a pole. At the midpoint of the rope hangs a weight. The goal is to drive in a circle…
Submitted by Matt Petitjean The Storm Before the Parade We were all set for another Chatham Independence Day parade. The truck was washed. The tables were set, the tents were up, and the spread—fresh pastries, fruit, and piping hot coffee—was ready to go. Late in the afternoon, I made a few final calls to members to lock in our logistics. Everything was running like clockwork. Then, the sky turned an ominous dark. A low rumble of thunder rattled in the…

The garage clinic on March 28 was well attended with more than 15 members and guests. We attended to 3 model A’s with two brake jobs and one exhaust manifold. The first brake job on a Cabriolet was fairly straight forward job for John Hunter , a simple adjustment on the rods. The second was a fordor sedan; this job started with removing the rear drum to find that a spring had broken and a few of the lugs had…
Submitted by: Evelyn Vanderhoff Our annual food cruise was a big success this year. There were four Model A’s, a Land Cruiser, four modern cars and rainy weather. We visited St. Mary’s Church food pantry with donations from our club members. Thank you to everyone who donated. After we left the food pantry, we took the back roads around Greenwood Lake. We stopped at a lakeside restaurant and had a great meal. We found out that it was Dave Volosin’s…
Submitted by: Evelyn Vanderhoff We all had a great time attending the Newton Holiday Parade. Everyone arrived and participated in the parade spreading holiday joy with the sight of our cars decorated for the festivities. After the parade we had a wonderful time having lunch and sharing stories. As we headed to the parking lot to leave, one of the cars would not start. There was no need to worry. Our technical advisors were there and a bunch of other knowledgeable…
Submitted by: Evelyn Vanderoff It was a beautiful fall day for our fall foliage tour. We had 10 Model A’s and drove for 70 miles. We stopped half way at Anderson Farms in Sparta for some fall goodies and of course ice cream. We drove around a lake which had a very narrow road and many back roads in Passaic and Sussex County. The leaves were just perfect!! After the tour, everyone came back to our house for an “Oktoberfest.”…
Submitted by: David Volosin On Saturday, September 13th, the Model A Ford Club of New Jersey celebrated International Model A Ford Day with a tour and some local town drive throughs highlighting the event. Seven cars, 9 adults and two kids had a ball as we traveled the countryside and surprised a few local towns blowing our “ahooga” horns. Noone got arrested. On the tour we visited Kinnelon, Fayson Lakes, drove through Rockaway Valley, Denville Center and the Town of…
Submitted by Evelyn Vanderhoff It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon to have our annual club picnic. Everyone brought the most delicious foods for our party. I would like to send a special thank you to John and Helen for their donation of all the burgers, hotdogs, buns and of course the cheese. It was exciting to see our new members at this event. I know some new friendships have developed and will continue to grow throughout the years. It was…

Submitted by Richard Smith We held the 2025 Gymkhana July 13th at the Pochuck Valley Farm Market and Deli. Terri and I arrived early enough to enjoy their ham, egg and cheese sandwiches before setting up for the games. The venue is excellent as it includes a nice shade tree and the grassy area avoids the summer heat of pavement. Five participants who brought their Model A’s included Jeff Vanderhof, John Morgan, Jim Dunlap, Ken Potts, and Richard Smith. Vinnie…
Since 1952 the Chatham Borough Fourth of July celebration has been sponsored by the Chatham Borough Fire Department. The event gives the community the American “hometown” feeling and has come to symbolize what life is like in small town USA. Borough residents line up chairs along the route days ahead of time for this annual parade. A Perfect Day for a Parade! Mother Nature truly smiled on us this year! The weather was absolutely ideal for our classic Model As…
BY: JEFF VANDERHOFF It was a beautiful day for a parade. The sun was shining and the temperature was perfect!! Brian and RonDee Lockwood asked Jeff to oversee their parade plans. Brian and RonDee had all the plans worked out in advance which made it very simple. We met at our usual spot and participated in the Newton Memorial Day Parade. Unfortunately, we did not have a big show of cars. During the parade, there were many spectators there who…
We had a beautiful day for our tour which began at the Dunkin donuts in Denville on Sunday, May 18th. Eight Model A’s and one Pontiac departed, traveling through Parsippany, Mor-ris Plains and Morristown. The route took us along the quiet country roads of Harding Township and then downtown Madison making our first stop at Rusty King’s, a past member of our club. Rusty has an overwhelming collection of player pianos and juke boxes. The pianos are coin operated for…
There isn’t much that can be said about this event that hasn’t already been said. The weather was spectacular considering 24 hours earlier it was snowing. The fire was almost smokeless and a pleasure to watch. The selection of firearms available for our shooting pleasure was more than adequate and the food was not only plentiful but delicious. The cabin in the woods was again the perfect place for us to gather and enjoy the great outdoors with all of…
Tis’ the season for the installation banquet/holiday party. It was a wonderful event at Perona Farms. The food was delicious and the company couldn’t have been any better. We swore in the existing officers for a second term. Thanks to everyone who has helped this past year. We had some fun with a gift exchange. We also had a successful fundraiser to help with the restoration of the firetruck.
Mother nature can be very deceiving at times. One day before our food drive, she dropped 9” of snow in the Sussex County area. Twenty miles south from my home, there was not a trace of snow. Although the rain and snow was much needed, it did not stop the 14 members from coming out and supporting our cause of donating food to the Wayne Interfaith Food Pantry. We also had members that did not come but still donated food.…
